Rotational Molding (RM-05)

Rotational molding is a method of production that typically (though not always) is utilized to produce large parts and pieces that have a large hollow center. Examples of products produced from roto molding include polyethylene kayaks, water cistern tanks, large bulk goods handling tubs etc. Many times tanks and bulk bins must be produced with certain characteristics depending on the environment they are utilized in. Items destined for outdoor exposure may warrant the use of an UV inhibitor additive which can slow the process of ultra violet light present in sunlight from degrading the resin. Items which will contain water for human consumption or have food contact frequently require the use of an antimicrobial additive to control bacteria, fungus and algae growth; common items include water cistern tanks and bins utilized in food processing. Currently triclosan is the dominant additive utilized for antimicrobial applications; however there have been a number of studies which show harmful health effects of this chemical. Ameriplas has developed an organic concentrate which can be utilized in place of triclosan. This additive also has the additional benefit of being lower in cost and providing thermal stabilization of the base resin.
